"Power Rangers" 2017. Oh how I miss the Nostalgia: the Theme Song Sing-a-long, the nod-n-mask hack n slash, the Big A$$ Robots! Yea as much as I loved the grim nature of the fan made film, I think this reboot served the 1993 original series to the upmost. Now although I felt that this one was a slow crawl to the well worth-it action, I can't help but wonder how much better it would have been if the origin wasn't so fleshed out... This is why I hope for a sequel, so they can concentrate on the overall action. Bryan Cranston did a very good, believable Zordon, and I felt Billy (RJ Cyler) stole the show as the comic relief... Even funnier than what he seemed to be in the trailer. But let me just say that Elizabeth Banks made Rita into an ACTUAL creepy and ruthless adversary, fleshing her character out way more than the T.V. show could, at least within an entire season.

The quick modern day culture references had their moments as well; as I enjoyed the kick of the yellow Chevy Camaro, I said "Bumble Bee nooo!" Then it was quickly followed by the Red Ranger's "Sorry Bumble Bee!" Glad I was on the same page. Now I may have missed other random easter eggs (there are at least 14), but I did see Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson after the final battle... It's also nice to know that they gave the original Trini a nod (she died in 2001) by letting modern day Trini sport a shirt with 1973 on it... Thuy Trang's birthday.

This wasn't the greatest film of the year by far; but it was that breath of fresh air for a universe long dwindled down for its original fans. Plus, to know that they are expressing ideas for The Green Ranger/ Tommy Oliver to be a female in the sequel... Instantly grabs my attention.

So hopefully in another 2 yrs...
"GO GO POWER RANGERS!"
again ;-)
