Alien: Covenant

 

Like I told my homey Tone, Ridley Scott and I are gonna have to have a little talk! Lol.

I am just gonna throw this out there, if you love anything Alien Franchise, you will LOVE this movie!  If you are spotty with your continuity and just isn’t the typical “Alien” Geek, then you will be lost… because some of The Biggest Fans of the Franchise… are lost! This doesn’t mean this movie isn’t Kick A$$, it just means that you maybe need to have a second viewing; or dig deep online to figure out what you may have missed, or just simply didn’t understand!  Me, I may have my little gripes, but I did thoroughly enjoy the film, and would easily recommend it to anyone that loves Sci-Fi period.  I will say this… it incorporates every feeling, of every Alien film (excluding the AvP films) ever made, all into one neat package of the Covenant.  It’s kind of like Alien Resurrection … just without Hellboy and Lydia Deetz… instead they had James Franco and Danny McBride, ya know… Pineapple Express ;-)

  

Now, Onward to some Spoilers (in a sense) ********

 

First big Gear Grinder for me… I didn’t have a sense of closure with Elizabeth Shaw’s fate!!  I mean, I thought that maybe she was going to be like an Alien Queen or something intense, but in the end of the day… she was just a murder victim, turned into an experiment.  Although this typically would be fine for me to accept, it isn’t… because we aren’t shown how it all unfolded.  What did that robo-jerk David do to her; was there a fight, or did he do to her, basically what he did to her husband.  I mean, this woman went through Hell in back in Prometheus, we are led to care about what happens to her; yet all of her final moments happened totally off screen.  I must admit, leaving it to the imagination is part good call, part not so good call for the fans.  It added a spooky, ghostly factor that our anticipation can intensify, but once we learn that she truly is dead… just ONE SMALL brief flashback would have been the  closure that I was looking for.  I mean, they did show a small flashback of David dumping out death on an entire civilization after all.  Respectfully Shaw’s presence was felt, and never forgotten throughout the film… thanks to… well… prop placement? XD That was among various other things too of course.

Well, David is soooo annoying, but they are obviously gonna keep him around the series for awhile, but will he be the one who perfects the Xenomorph, just in time to face our beloved Ripley? Is he, or will he be the first Space Jockey we laid eyes on in the “Alien” film?  After seeing what this one Xenomorph was capable of in Covenant, It’s hard to think that they just got slower and sluggish after the Prometheus franchise; maybe they’ll do a George Lucas and reedit all the old movies, Yoda style! ;-)

I mean seriously, this is worse than the Logan movie, we all know how the series end… and that’s with “Alien Resurrection,” at least at the current time. So rooting for an overall good guy victory is superfluous, I’m done with it.  I may as well stay tuned to the grim reality, that every crew that will be introduced into this Universe… will die. At least 95-100% of the crew will die every movie! It doesn’t really matter who survives from here on out, because David is a Douche!  Walter, maybe you lived through that switch-a-roo, but I hope not… that is a lonely world David has made down there.  After seeing Walter’s combat and healing capabilities, it is also hard to believe that they dumbed down future models to be as weak, and ill operational as the Ash and Bishop Models. Lol

Anywho, there is so much more that can be said about this movie, and the many conundrums that are arousing.  There is still more sequels, at least 1 or 2 more after this one planned, so we’ll see if everything slowly adds up to make more sense to the hardcore fans; but I gotta say, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus raised many unanswered questions, and Covenant didn’t really answer much in the way of those raised questions either.  WHO ARE the engineer’ish people David wasted, ummm, why did the Engineers create us, then tried to destroy us!? WHY, I have a feeling we may get a half A$$ed fan service in these movies, and will eventually have to turn to the many pages of the comics, and files that are made beyond the films… thank gosh for all the hardest core researchers that are out there, YouTube will be my best friend through this all!
